The Department of Sound Technology and Musical Instruments deals with the subject of the technology of construction and maintenance of musical instruments. The department provides technological and musical education for the exercise of scientific and technical knowledge in the profession of manufacturer and conservator of acoustic and electric musical instruments, string player and maintainer, sound engineer, technician of electronic means of reproduction and processing of sound, etc.
On 01/10/2018 based on Law 4559/2018 it was upgraded to a University Department. The Department of Ethnomusicology was founded as a new department of the School of Music and Audiovisual Arts of the Ionian University. The school also includes the Department of Music Studies and the Department of Sound and Visual Arts.
